Boo Blossoms

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Once more just Boo and Brody, Boo reveled at the extra room in the bed, but only until two more greys arrived.  Their daddy had to travel over Easter so greyhounds Ransom and Ozzie stayed with us.  At a mere 61 pounds, Boo was the smallest of this pack, but she didn’t let that stop her.

With the lessons she learned from fostering Valentine, she maintained her rightful place as the young, albeit effective, ruler in this house.  She and Ransom relegated the boys to the floor and happily took over the sofas (and the bed).  Of course, having been here before, in Ransom’s mind Boo was the newbie, but it didn’t take long to realize there were plenty of treats, toys, and affection to keep everyone content.

The four dogs had a ‘greyt’ time running, romping and talking through the fences to the neighboring dogs.  Of course it must be said that Boo did carry the ever-popular buffalo toy to a secret place where only she could enjoy it.

And since Ransom and Ozzie brought their own bed – which Brody immediately claimed as his own – they’re always welcome back.

Valentine has a home!

Valentine, the new greyhound we started fostering on Feb 11, will be departing for her forever home tomorrow. Her new family is so excited; they’re coming here to pick her up.

She’s been a wonderful reminder of why we do this. Just two, she was all ready house trained, but she had some wacky ideas of what was edible. As careful as we were, we lost the corners of two books and half a magazine. We also saw a rubber band and pieces of plastic (usually mangled cat toys) come back when her tummy revolted.

She’s got potential as a greyhound dancer and a bright smile. From the moment she arrived, she wanted to be the new queen, so my Brody and Boo had to teach her the real hierarchy. Of course she taught my two a few tricks: like how to sleep on the bed and the best way to get the neighbor dogs to bark.

All the best to you Valentine! It’s been a joy.

This pup’s a stitch!

The new foster arrived last night.  She doesn’t answer to much of anything other than ‘New Dog’, so we’re trying to convince her her name is Valentine.  She doesn’t seem to recognize or care much about her racing name.

She JUST turned two so she’s very much a puppy.  She mouths everything, so we keep alternatives like rope toys and nylabones handy.  And while she is cat-safe, she thinks the cats are fun to chase.  She’s also a counter cruiser: she doesn’t jump completely onto the counters, but she does get her front paws and nose up there, snuffling along and checking everything out.

Valentine is intent on learning all there is to know about a house.  When she got too quiet, we searched for her finding no dog, only the cats pondering a bedroom door.  Taking the not-so-subtle hint, we glanced in to find a relieved Valentine snuffling around the door, trying to get out.  When the door opened, she happily bolted out and down the hall after the cats.

Probably not the thanks the cats were looking for.
