Our Quirky Queen of Adopted Greyhounds

It’s quite possible, with all the fun, quirky bits I’ve posted about Bandit and Brody, that you might get the idea that Boo is our perfect angel. It’s probably time to dispel that rumor.

Boo is indeed our perfect sweetheart with perfect mastery of the angelic expression. And over time she became the reigning queen of our adopted greyhound pack. That doesn’t mean she’s without her ornery side or quirky habits. For instance:

My red slippers. Since my feet are often cold, I wear these great polar fleece slippers from Land’s End in the house. If I kick them off to run errands or whatever and am careless enough to leave them on the floor, Boo will carry one off. She doesn’t tear it up, she doesn’t take them both, she doesn’t even hide it, she just quietly carries one slipper into another room.

Squirrels. Boo is our resident squirrel hunter. She will go outside and do a perfect impression of a lazy adopted greyhound until the squirrels are lulled into complacency. Then she attacks. If we had fewer trees, she’d likely have a higher tally than one, but it counts and the memory of it gives her hope to keep trying. This squirrel preference carries over into her toys as well. We can look at all kinds of fluffy, squeaky toys, but she always goes for the squirrel.

Play time. Since Bandit’s arrival Boo’s ornery side has become more pronounced, but she did it with Brody when he felt more spry. Boo waits until the boys have a toy they want, then she pushes into the mix, plays for all of a minute and then lays down on the toy, psyching out the boy dog. The look on her face tells them not to go for it, but she took it! What’s a boy grey to do?  This really only applies to toys that are not squirrels.

Bed time. Boo is all about bed time. She knows the routine and happily races through it to get upstairs for the bed time cookie and the fluffiest of the dog beds. Unless we’re babysitting a friend’s adopted greyhound, Ransom. Then she races Ransom for the pillow closest to mine. She doesn’t stay on the pillows, or even on the bed, it’s just a matter of pride that she can be closest to the momma.
