Welcome to May and my new, fun feature about the books I’ve been devouring recently. You can expect this weekly feature to run the gamut from genre fiction to non-fiction and I hope you’ll visit often and let me know which books you’re enjoying too.
In case you’re new here, I fell into my career as an author naturally. It was the direct result of being a voracious reader. As a kid I read everything from Encyclopedia Brown to well, the encyclopedia (Yes, back in the days of dinosaurs, before the internet).
Before I was published I thought the best part of being an author was the writing. Spending hours with my characters on each story is time I treasure, time I need.
But when my books made it to readers, I discovered an unexpected joy: connecting with readers! As a shy person, I thought meeting readers would be difficult, but it has been wonderful. So I thought why not share what we all love most: awesome books!
When I saw this quote, I knew it was perfect for kicking off this feature: ‘…you will find the right film or the right book, and it will understand you…’ ~ Bjork
As a big fan of Nora Roberts, I feel this way about many of her books, that the story understands me right when I need it most, often for different reasons. Recently The Witness (a recommendation from my daughter) spoke to me as a reader and as an author with the tight plot and emotional depths.
One of the things I adore about Nora is her ability to make me feel. To make me care and cry amid tense, sad, or happy scenes. Some days I just need that emotional release.
My daughter also recommended the new O’Dwyer trilogy and I just finished Book One: Dark Witch. To sum it up this paranormal romance novel was perfect Nora. The dynamic characters, the lilt of an Ireland setting, friends and family, and the light and dark forces of magic, love, and romance.
I agree with my daughter’s assessment, this book (and start to the trilogy) reminds us a bit of the Gallagers of Ardmore trilogy – which remains at the top of my favorite reads list.
Are you a fan of Nora Roberts or her alter ego J.D. Robb?
