Writer Wednedsday #39

Writers are unique creatures: we observe, we question, we let our curiosity lead us and often let our imaginations run wild. It’s the best feeling in the world!

“A writer, I think, is someone who pays attention to the world.” -Susan Sontag

What is utterly wonderful is as we are doing all of that, we are doing it through our individual lens of experience so when two writers pay attention to any one thing in the world, they will have unique observations to share. Don’t be afraid to explore your own viewpoint, to let your experience color your fictional characters or enhance whatever you’re striving to teach or share with your non-fiction audience.

In fiction, it can also be a valuable exercise to explore a different viewpoint through a character, using what you’ve learned from listening and interacting with others who’ve had a different life experience. Sometimes what we learn by looking at a circumstance or issue through that new lens changes us in marvelous, unexpected ways.

Whatever your goals for your writing, let what you see in the world fuel you. Embrace your perspecitve – own it- and allow it to infuse and energize your writing time.

Live the writing adventure!
