Writer Wednesday #43

With the holidays approaching and more demands on our time – even joyful demands – it’s important to make the most of the time you have.

The best time for planning a book is while you’re doing the dishes. –Agatha Christie

While you’re tending to tasks like baking, doing dishes, or wrapping gifts, let your mind wander over your work in progress. Keep your phone or a notebook handy to record notes to yourself about your writing project. That way your ideas or thoughts or ah-ha moments will be right there at your fingertips when you do have a few minutes to put those ideas on the page.

Rather than looking at what’s taking you away from your writing or feeling guilty over missing the word count or time with loved ones, you might look at your writing time as a sanity saver during the holiday crush.

Taking just ten or fifteen minutes for yourself can be a wonderful mental reset after being surrounded by details and events that are outside our normal routine. Try getting up a few minutes earlier, or staying up an extra half hour, depending on whether you’re an early bird or a night owl.

Live the writing adventure!
