One of the indisputable facts of writing is spending time with ourselves, lost in daydreams, ideas, or deep in thought while the words flow to the page.
“We’re all in this together, by ourselves.” Lily Tomlin
The most critical and core piece of the writing process is putting words on the page. It is a solo endeavor, yet we know by the evidence of all the books out there that we’re not alone as writers.
Plenty of people have dared to write, to create, to become authors who have blazed trails with words and ideas, leaving us beautiful, powerful footsteps to follow.
So we’re not alone, but it starts with that solo effort. Us and the page.
It’s in that solitude when the doubts start to creep in and haunt us. Doubts about our writing skill or the topic or genre we’re working on. If those pesky doubts are interfering with your writing progress, remember that you are enough, already, just as you are.
Yes, there is always more to learn about craft and your process. You will need to ask for help to grow as an author, but the inherent need and passion to write is the essential piece of the puzzle -and you already have that.
Your dreams and goals for your writing are unique to you. Every author has a slightly different path to their specific definition of success. Embrace both your vision and your process and keep writing forward.
It’s true that we are all in this together, by ourselves, but we never have to feel alone on the journey.
