Question: What is your favorite aspect of writing romantic suspense novels?
Answer: The characters! I love writing action and a fast-paced story, but it’s the characters who bring that story to life, right?
Each book for me becomes a study in how the past impacts the present. The journey is so unique for all of us. Who we are as young people is rarely who we become as adults. We learn, we discover, and hopefully, we improve and can then improve our world.
How each character overcomes and grows is fascinating for me as an author through the development of the story.
Conflict wasn’t easy for me in the beginning of my career – I’d feel sorry for my characters. But now I see conflict (inside and out) more as growing pains. What value is the happy ever after reward without taking the risk, making the effort, and choosing the commitment along the way?
My characters are faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, either in the circumstances or in the heart (or both). What they choose and how they choose it, is a unique discovery. Each and every one of us is different and it’s fun for me as an author to play with that on the page.
