Ask Regan April 2021

Question: Have you ever gotten “reader’s” block?

Just a few of the books I enjoyed reading and sharing during March!

Answer: I love this question!

My daughter and I were recently discussing this topic (while my adorable grandpuppy roamed about the yard, but I digress). She had found herself unable to get into books she’d been anticipating a few months prior.

Part of her hang up might have been genre, or just that her mind was so overloaded with her own concerns, she couldn’t relax enough to get into the story.

It happens.

There are definitely times that I’ve felt blocked about what to read or even what genre to read. Sometimes a character or plot is too serious to give me the escape I’m looking for, other times the reverse is true.

Of course there are moods and seasons of my reading life just as there are moods and seasons for my writing life. I’ve been known to go on a Christmas in July bender or sink into complex mystery novels during the winter months.

There will always be more books on my to-be-read list than I can get to in any given year, but I think that’s the beauty of being a voracious reader. That means there’s always something fresh, ready to shake me out of any potential case of reader’s block.

Live the adventure!
