Daniel is one of those guys with quiet integrity, determined to do the right thing for the family business, their employees, and himself.
For Daniel, he has the family he was born to, the family of fellow firefighters, and the family he can see all too clearly if he can convince Shannon Nolan, a single mother with a precocious four-year-old son, to take a chance on him. Shannon’s family consists of her co-workers and friends and though she’s tried to be all her son needs, the older he gets, the more she can see how much he’s missing.
Despite their differing backgrounds, Daniel and Shannon have much in common when it comes to an eye for design, remodeling homes and what they want out of life. They might even have a future together if they can keep the deadly secrets in Shannon’s past from rearing up and destroying her present.
As an only child, I learned early on that the big family I longed for would have a different definition and be made up of people who weren’t related to me by blood. Building a family with my husband, away from our parents and hometowns meant developing new ties. Those friendships through the years are as strong as any genetic relationships, and in some cases stronger.
The family we choose to create can be as precious as the family we’re born into and that’s one element that I hope shines through this story.
