Over the past year I’ve been writing with Debra Webb for the Harlequin Intrigue line: The Hunk Next Door (11/2014), Heart of a Hero (2/2015), To Honor and To Protect (6/2015)
Harlequin offers three distinct lines for romantic suspense fans, each with a different flare or intensity to match your mood. As a fan and reader myself, I know the characters make all the difference in the adventures I love most.
What do we all find so consistently appealing about lawmen, protectors, and military heroes?
As an Army wife, I’ll admit it’s partly about the uniform 🙂 but for me it’s also about character and integrity that make the sacrifices worthwhile. In real life the men and women who serve communities in law enforcement, protective security, and our military are our everyday heroes. It takes courage, loyalty, and dedication to step into the breach.
As a reader I enjoy taking the journey with dynamic, alpha heroes who often seem to be isolated because of the tough choices they have to make. And I love it when these rugged, challenged heroes are faced with their perfect match in an unexpected circumstance or package.
Add in the endless potential elements of danger – physical and emotional – and I find myself lost in the story as a reader and as an author.
The heroes in the books Deb and I have written for Intrigue are from Thomas Casey’s team of Specialists Deb introduced in her earlier novels. Each of our heroes have backgrounds in security or the military. It’s the type of hero – a man with integrity, a selfless streak, and determination – that we particularly enjoy bringing to the story.

I love your heroes…they are everything I look for in a good book but I will say that I do like a good cowboy too!
Thanks, Jo Ann! 🙂
I love your books. I enjoy the cowboy ones and I am really loving your books with Debra Webb.
Thanks, Lori! Deb and I are having a great time writing together!
The protector books are my favorite. I enjoy most books, as long as the female lead character is a strong one!
Right there with you, Teresa!
I love romantic suspense because the storylines tend to be more fast-paced and keep you interested in the book.Invariably, these heroes are all dark, brooding characters who are carrying around a lot of baggage and they meet the woman who is their perfect mate, always willing to pull them out of the darkness when they need it the most.
I love delving into the characters and finding the right match for brooding heroes. 😉 One of the things I like best about writing romantic suspense with Deb is all the prep work we do with the characters and what’s brought them to this point in their lives.
have read both books and loved them. Can’t wait for the next one. Just keep on writing good heroes.
Thank you! We’ll do our best, that’s a guarantee!
I fell in love with your writing when I picked up HEART OF A HERO. It was on a whim, honestly, but I am so glad I did! Since then I’ve bought yours and Debra’s backlists.
What I find most appealing about a Romance Suspense hero…that he realizes the woman he’s with has strength he’ll have to rely on. He doesn’t push her behind him and say this is a man’s job. He says…we have to figure this out or we might die. So let’s do it.
Thank you, Dawn! I’m so glad you found Heart of a Hero – it’s one of my favorite couples and adventures. 🙂
I like the men in romatic suspense because they are nothing like the men I know lol
Hahaha, Nicole! 😉
Here is my 2 cent – love you and Debra writing. The stories are great keep doing what you do best WRITING GREAT STORIES!!!
Thanks, Gail! 🙂
Romantic Suspense has always been my favorite. They are fast paced and leave you on the edge of your seat. There is just something about the strong protective type.
I agree, Spring!
