Here we are, in the heart of December and most likely your writing time has taken a hit due to other obligations. That’s okay. Just keep calm and remember that anything you add to your project now is progress and keeps you in touch with your ideas and projects.
“To a great mind, nothing is little.” -Sherlock Holmes
It’s common to avoid our writing time, especially when we’re distracted, because we’re afraid our idea isn’t big enough, or important enough to keep at it when other things demand our attention.
Yet the smallest kernel of an idea can grow into something vital that will entertain or engage or assist someone who needs your message. The way you see an idea, the way you explore it and share it will be different from any other writer.
So set aside time for yourself this holiday season. If you have ten minutes or two hours, be brave with your ideas. If you don’t have all the time you’d like, build in some grace for yourself and keep a file or journal of thoughts, quotes, articles, or scenes that caught your attention so you can go back to them when time allows.
No matter what is crowding your agenda, make time for your imagination to play. Even if the idea isn’t something you bring to fruition, getting in the habit of exercising creativity will make your writing time more productive and more enjoyable.
