Writer Wednesday #49

If you came by looking for my writer wednesday posts in February, my apologies. It was a month full of illness and sorrow in our home. Believe me, we are doing our best to be kind to ourselves as we grieve and look forward to better days ahead.

But all of our February challenges are summed up today’s quote:

“Be amazing in your unique way.” -Regan Black

None of us can predict what we’ll face in a given day. We can make plans, but that’s no guarantee those plans will work. There will be times when those plans simply fall by the wayside because who you are and what you *really* need to do takes precedent.

That’s okay. Embrace it.

Normally when I encourage authors with this quote, it’s for the purpose of reminding them that we all have unique gifts, skills, and talents. When things go off the rails -with a writing project or with life- it is more important than ever to remember you’re special, you’re strong, and you can get through it.

For me, I journal through the tough days. I pray. Lately my body has even forced me to be still and rest more than I’d like. I do my best to remember that no matter what’s going wrong, I’m me and I have value.

It sinks in eventually.

If you’re dealing with a life or writing project that has jumped the track, I encourage you to purge the negative feelings and focus on what you can do. Focus on what fulfills you and gives you joy. That deliberate shift can make a huge difference in your mental health as well as getting you back to top writing form.

When life throws us curve balls and detours, we have to deal with them, but it’s better to deal with them in the context of our best selves. We often discover our best self through our writing – be that journaling, storytelling, or product creation.

Never forget that your unique strengths make you qualified to be amazing. You don’t have to be amazing like your friend or boss or your mentor or an author you admire. You only have to be amazing in your unique way.

Live the writing adventure!
