Writer Wednesday #58

The best writers didn’t get that way overnight. It took time to find their voice, plus loads of inspiration and courage to pursue a path that is rarely smooth.

“You only learn to be a better writer by actually writing.” Doris Lessing

This is a stark and simple truth, one that writer-you needs to embrace. You can take classes, read books, or talk all day with others about how to write, but to truly grow and realize your potential as a writer you must put the words on the page.

Only by writing will you uncover your individual strengths as a writer. Only by writing will you discover the stories you are most passionate about telling. And only by writing will you identity your weaknesses so you can learn how to ask for the help you need to learn how to shore them up.

It is only by putting in the hours with the ideas in your mind and heart and getting those ideas into words on the page that you’ll learn how to connect with your audience, what they love and what they need from you.

The essentail key to becoming a better writer is to make time for the writing.
